Coffee Shop or Bakery Spotlight: Bliss Cafe

Joshua Tree continues to welcome thoughtfully curated small businesses, and Bliss Cafe, which opened in December, is a welcome addition to the local coffee scene. Located in a space longtime locals may remember as a former bank—and later a thrift store—this corner of town has found new life as a calm, inviting café.

Opening Day Curiosity

I first stopped into Bliss Cafe on opening day while I was already in Joshua Tree for the Farmers Market. New businesses always spark my curiosity, especially in a town where each one adds something unique to the community.

The space immediately felt clean and modern, with a relaxed energy that made it easy to imagine it becoming a regular stop for both locals and visitors. I went to order a Bliss Lemonade, but learned they were not accepting cash that day. I didn’t have a card on me at the time, so my visit was brief—but the impression was still a positive one. Opening days come with learning curves, and this felt like one of those early moments.

A Return Visit

On a cold and windy Saturday—perfect weather for something warm—I found myself returning to Bliss Cafe after my weekly produce run at the Joshua Tree Farmers Market. It felt like the right place to duck out of the wind.

This time, I immediately noticed a clearly posted sign on the front doors stating that cash is not accepted, something that hadn’t been in place on opening day. I was prepared, and from the moment I stepped inside, the experience felt more settled and confident.

I was warmly greeted by the barista and ordered a mocha made with espresso, along with a chocolate chip cookie. I don’t often indulge in sugar, but every now and then it’s worth it—and this felt like one of those moments.

When my coffee was handed to me, I paused. Sitting on top of my mocha was a large heart crafted in foam. I hadn’t seen latte art on the drinks served just before mine, which somehow made the gesture feel personal. I even snapped a quick photo before placing the lid on, not wanting to lose that small moment of care.

A Space Designed to Slow Down

One of the things I appreciated most during this visit was the atmosphere inside the café. It was quiet without feeling empty. There was no loud music competing with conversation, no need to speak over background noise. Instead, the space invited you to settle in.

Bliss Cafe offers generous indoor seating, giving guests room to sit comfortably, enjoy good company, or simply spend a few quiet moments alone with a warm drink. On a chilly desert morning, it felt especially welcoming to sit inside, warm up, and slow down.

Final Thoughts

This return visit confirmed what I sensed early on: Bliss Cafe is finding its rhythm. Warm service, a calm environment, and thoughtful details—like a heart in the foam—go a long way in turning a simple coffee stop into a place you want to return to.

Whether you’re coming in from the Farmers Market, escaping a windy desert morning, or looking for a peaceful place to enjoy a good cup of coffee, Bliss Cafe is well worth a visit. It’s also just a few blocks north of Ryokan Pineview, making it an easy and enjoyable walk from the rental to downtown Joshua Tree—especially on a Saturday morning when the town is waking up and the market is in full swing.
